The first District New Member Orientation of RY 2018-19 was held on the afternoon of the 22 September 2018. It was a full house with 60 attendees – new and potential Rotarians who joined from two weeks to two years – coming from 24 different Rotary Clubs in District 3450. The seminar began with PDG Ada Cheng (RC Wanchai) who introduced members to the broader organizational structure of Rotary from 34k Rotary clubs, to 550+ districts, 34 zones, and RI. An equally important component of Rotary is The Rotary Foundation (TRF), which PDG Jones Wong (RC HK financial Centre) discussed in his presentation. To see TRF in action, PDG Peter Wong (RC Kowloon East) discussed the installation of over 100 Water Filtration Systems in China, demonstrating Rotary service in action. CP Fonia Wong then shared her Rotary journey that began from RYLA in her college days to chartering the Rotary Club of Central and starting the Rotary District Alumni Association and the Hong Kong Youth Service Leader Awards. Youth Service is the fifth avenue of service, and DRC/AG Menza Chu (RC Soho HK) reminded us of its importance by sharing his insights and prompting us to take care of our young Rotaractors & Interactors. Finally, we ended on a high note with a rousing game of Rotary Jeopardy by combining some teamwork, competitive spirit, together with a change to share some Rotary ABCs. |
