Dear Presidents
August is the Membership and Extension Month Rotary International set aside to focus on membership. This falls early in the Rotary calendar, just as each club begins to settle into working toward its own membership goals. This is an ideal time to recruit new members for your club. Membership development and retention are important elements in securing the future of Rotary and to continue the Rotary’s mission of humanitarian service. Apart from recruiting new and quality members, retaining OUTSTANDING Rotarians is vital. As stated by RI President John Kenny in his August Message “Rotarians are and must be people of a certain caliber – people with the capacity to do great deeds, the sense to do them wisely, and the strength of character to do them honestly and well”.
I would like to draw your attention to the new membership slogan adopted by the RI Board of Directors – “Each Rotarian: Reach One, Keep One”. The slogan emphasizes the need for Rotarians to focus on both recruitment and retention in their membership grown effort. We are reminded to Reach out by inviting a qualify person to join Rotary because Rotary membership is by invitation. We are also reminded to Keep the new member become active and involved because this is an essential element in membership retention. As part of the long-term membership strategy, awards under several categories will be available to recognize individuals for sponsoring new members while focusing on retention. More information will be available under the following link:

Have a great month of August!Yours in Rotary
